My local museum holds a collection of the town's history, fine art and Egyptology. I was particularly drawn to the photographs of my town showing the original scene superimposed with the modern vision, a collection called Southport Double Take.
A local road in Southport
This scene shows an image of Churchtown village an area very well known to myself, blending the old buildings, still relatively unchanged today with addition of modern cars.
Part of the Egyptology collection
Frank Hampson's Dan Dare comic collection
'The Art of Noise'
An exhibition linking the visual arts to music. I took a liking to many of the pieces of art on display as I feel they very interesting in their abstract form, bright coloured and unusual designs. I am inspired by the mixed media used to create this art piece and intend to draw inspiration from this area in my own designs.
One of the post poignant objects on display is a reference to Remembrance Day. A simple sculpture created as a memorial for the thousands of soldiers who have lost their lives since the first world war. It is a striking piece of art due to the monotone colour of the background and the vivid red of the poppies in the forefront.
Even though it is only a small museum I feel it was a worth while visit as it gave inspiration in many forms.
